Mini Sessions - why they are great for families with young children

If you’ve ever looked into getting professional photos of yourself or your family, chances are you have heard of mini sessions. Mini sessions are shorter versions of a standard photo session and are usually offered on a certain day and time with a set location. Mini sessions are generally offered seasonally or for special occasions such as Christmas, fall, lavender field and Mommy-and-me (to name a few).

Below I go over my reasons for why these are so great specifically for families with young children. Don’t get me wrong - a couple’s mini session and even a graduation mini session is a great option for families with older kids (or no kids at all!) but today I’m focusing solely on families with littles still in the house.

I generally offer 2-3 mini sessions per year and in the past these have included: Christmas Tree Farm Mini Sessions, Lavender Field Mini Sessions, Fall Mini Sessions and Cherry Blossom Mini Sessions just to name a few! Click here (scroll to bottom of the page) to subscribe to my email list where you will be the first to be notified about when these are posted - they fill up quickly!

Reason #1: mini sessions save you time.

Mini sessions are great when photographing young children because they are quick and to the point. Kids get restless after awhile and these 10-15 minute sessions leave them no time to start squirming - before they know it it’s over! Also how great that you get to be in and out in less than 20 minutes?! Busy moms know there is never enough time in the day!

Reason #2: mini sessions are Low Commitment

Not only are they less of a time commitment (as discussed above), mini sessions are also less of a financial commitment. At a fraction of what a regular photo session would cost, these are an affordable way to get some great photos while not breaking the bank.

Reason #3: Mini sessions save you the headache of choosing a location

When you sign up for a mini session, the location is already chosen for you. It can be stressful trying to pick a location for your session when there are so many to choose from. Most photographers do offer location guides as well as personalized recommendations based on what you are looking for when you book a regular session, which can be super helpful in making this decision. However, having a theme and location with the date and time(s) already picked out for your mini session can make it that much easier for an already busy mama!

Reason #4: You get to capture more of your child as they grow

Because these sessions are offered at different times throughout the year at a budget-friendly price, you can choose to do more than one mini session throughout the year (or the same one every year) to capture how your child(ren) grow and change throughout the year. The flexibility of being able to do a Mommy-and-Me lavender field mini session and a Christmas Tree Farm mini session for the cost of one regular session is such a great option for young, growing families.
